David Smith is a dental technician, managing director of Phoenix Dental Castings in Exeter, and a faculty lecturer at Peninsula Dental School. He has sat on various committees, including two terms on the General Dental Council, as well as roles at the Department of Education and the Department of Health.
Dr Chet Trivedy is a consultant in Emergency Medicine, hon associate professor at Warwick Medical School, founder of the Tulsi Foundation, lead crowd doctor at the Kia Oval, founder of Boundaries For Life, and a trustee of the Oral Health Foundation.
Dr Roger Matthews was in practice for 22 years and was a full-time dento-legal adviser for the MDU before joining Denplan where he was chief dental officer for 16 years. Now life president of Simplyhealth Professionals, he was appointed MBE for services to dentistry in 2017.
Andrew Taylor is a hospital-trained dental technician and, for the last 35 years, owner of Pacor Dental Ceramics in Dronfield. His main areas of interest are aesthetic zone fixed restorations and ultimate accuracy of fit. He is also an author, painter and event organiser.
Richard Lishman is managing director of the 4dentists group of companies.
Dr Marina Harris is a senior lecturer (periodontal lead) at the University of Portsmouth. As well as her professional roles as clinician and tutor, Marina is also a local adviser with Dental Protection; a GDC education associate; she represents the UK on the P&G Dental Hygienist Global Advisory Board; and is a past president of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy.
Sean Wilkinson is a dental technician and course instructor as well as a lecturer for Zirkonzahn at many international conferences. He is also registered as an ITI-lecturer.
TJ Nicolas is the only Vita Master Technician in the UK and owner of the Implant & Ceramic Dental Studios in Miserden, Gloucestershire.
James Green is a maxillofacial and dental laboratory manager at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital and Broomfield Hospital near Chelmsford in Essex. He regularly lectures on a variety of maxillofacial and dental technology topics.
Jo Banks (left) and Bernadette Phillips from the Simplyhealth Training Academy will be offering a series of sessions on "Future proofing your practice", complaints handling, record-keeping, and patient consent.
Chris Turner is a retired dentist. His career includes being senior lecturer/consultant to the School of Dental Surgery in Sheffield in 1980, where he established the Dental Practice Unit. His later career included working as director of Dental Services and postgraduate dental tutor in Salisbury, then achieving recognition as a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry in referral practice in the Cotswolds. His inventions include colour-coded pocket probes from 1972, several instruments, post crowns, portable phantom head units and latterly the Spacemark Dental interproximal brushing system.
Edd Jones has a wealth of customer service, business growth and team management experience, having worked within the security, leisure and agricultural industry before coming into dentistry as a business manager at a Plymouth dental practice. Edd takes great pride in delivering 'useful, interesting and bespoke content'.
Melissa Mead is a UK Sepsis Trust Ambassador and spokesperson. Since the death of her son William, who lost his life to sepsis just after his first birthday in December 2014, Melissa has campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness of sepsis all over the country, giving talks, attending conferences, appearing on national TV and creating an awareness-raising video seen by millions of people. Melissa will be appointed MBE in 2019 for her services to raising awareness of sepsis.
Michael Wheeler qualified as a dental hygienist in 1978, spending his early career in the Royal Air Force. He is a dental workforce transformation tutor for HEE South West. He is a past president of BDHA, was inaugural president of the BSDHT and is a past trustee for the Oral Health Foundation. He is an expert adviser for the NICE Centre for Guidelines (Oral Health) and an external expert to OFQUAL and an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Kent.
Pam Swain is the chief executive of the British Association of Dental Nurses and editor of the British Dental Nurses’ Journal. Pam, who is a Fellow of the Institute of Association Management and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, was awarded the City & Guilds Licentiate in Management in 2005 and a Masters in Business Administration in 2007; she also received the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award at the Dental Awards, and the 2012 BADN Outstanding Contribution to Dental Nursing Award.
Trevor Bell provides training and workshops covering all aspects of mental health. He is an associate of Mental Health First Aid England and part of its stable of trainers for the corporate sector.
Hazel Coey is president of the British Association of Dental Nurses. Having worked as senior oral health promoter in Buckinghamshire for several years and then teaching hundreds of dental nurse students at Aylesbury College of Further Education, Hazel ran the dental nurse apprenticeship programme at Oxford Deanery. She recently received an NEBDN Special Recognition Award for her commitment to dental nurse training and education.
Starting as a dental technician, David Claridge went on to become a successful dental laboratory owner, before selling his lab interests and joining the corporate world at the beginning of the digital dental revolution. For the past 10 years, he has worked specifically in the field of digital intra-oral scanning. Through David’s experience of training over 600 dentists to use intra-oral digital impression scanners, he has a unique insight into dentists' and patients' needs, when they are looking to incorporate digital workflows into their businesses.
James Smith is a territory manager for Planmeca, the world’s largest privately-owned manufacturer of high-tech dental products. Having spent a number of years as a digital imaging specialist, focusing primarily on 2D/3D imaging technologies, James has been able to develop his expertise further into chairside restorative and orthodontic CAD/CAM solutions. With a keen interest and understanding of the clinical application of the latest technologies, James has a passion for on-going education and training. This passion for training has ensured that as a hardware/software specialist, a well-rounded and open approach to the use of technology within dentistry is maintained.
